Let’s face it, somedays just suck. I’m on medication that for the most part keeps my moods pretty stable, but mood-swings are still a common thing I have to deal with in my life. There doesn’t have to be a reason for it, sometimes I just get depressed. Still, I’ve learned that you don’t have to let your emotions rule you. I’ve picked up a few tricks that I find help to turn a bad mood around, and I’d like to share them with you guys over a couple instalments! I’m not sure how effective these tricks will be for other people, but if I can help just one person get over a bad mood, then it’s worth it!
Anywho, here’s tip number one. I actually used this trick just yesterday, and it worked pretty well! Here’s what you need to do: Everyone knows a scene from a movie, or maybe a song, that makes them feel. You know, one that gives you goosebumps, or even brings tears to your eyes! As I mentioned in my “Speed Racer” review, the last half of the final race does just that for me. So last night when I got totally bummed out, I stopped what I was doing, popped that DVD into the player, and skipped to said race. I’m happy to say that I perked up considerably, and I was able to end the night with a smile!
So why did this work? Well, I’m no expert, but I think there’s several reasons. First, if this is something that’s produced the same effect on you multiple times, your mind and body tend to associate it with positive feelings…and adjust accordingly. Chemical reactions occur (don’t ask me which ones, I don’t remember crap from my biology classes), and your brain switches gears. The renewed good feeling might only last a few minutes, or it might stick around for the rest of the day. Depends on what you follow up with. Me, I went straight from the movie scene to using a few more of my techniques, and was able to keep my good mood for the rest of the night and into today. Hell, I’m still in a good mood! I’ll let you guys in on my other “secrets techniques” in the next instalment. See you later folks! ![]()
